For 25 or more years Darcy was a professional bass player playing in many types of bands, teaching and making a living from music. At the same time, he was also working full time in a music store doing repairs to guitars and basses as well as managing the store. In 2013 the perfect storm happened in his life and pushed him over the edge. Darcy had struggled for over 38 years from depression and had to make a call for help which was one of the most difficult things he had ever done.

After a month of intense therapy Darcy's therapist started giving him home work. He would hand it in weekly, they would talk about what he had written and worked on changing  his negative thoughts, changing the way he was seeing the world, it was working in ways he never dreamed possible. Darcy's therapist told him he was a natural writer and that if he wrote a book he could change 1000’s of people's lives who suffer in silence, who are too afraid to reach out and get help. Four years later Darcy released his 1st book “Why I Run” My story of how I won my life back from the darkness of depression.

Since the release of Darcy's book his life has changed dramatically. He became a public speaker doing talks all around Southern Ontario for many different mental health and addiction originations to raise awareness. His goal is to break the stigma  behind depression and mental health and addiction, help as many people as he can, let them know they are not alone.

Shortly after the release of his book people start coming into his place of work, buying his book and talking sometimes for the first time about their struggles. They felt comfortable talking with him, Darcy would help them by listening and pointing them in the right directions. “Why I run” has touched 1000’s of peoples lives.

Darcy then went on to write “Creative Writing For The Mind, Body & Soul”, “My Guided Meditation"  Using Meditation as a Therapeutic Tool to Focus Your Overactive Mind and “ The Big Let Go” Letting go of control is taking control.

Darcy then created 3 courses based on the 4 books he has written. Over 40 hours of teaching material created. He has taught he courses for many different Mental Health and Addiction organization’s as well as community Partners.

In March of 2021 Darcy started working as a Peer Support Worker in Mental Health and Addictions at St Joseph's Hospital, West 5th campus in Hamilton Ontario in the Patient & Family Collaborative Support Services.

In just 8 years of therapy Darcy has turned the one thing in his life that almost destroyed him into the greatest thing that has ever happened to him! Giving a purpose that he never dreamed of having!

Darcy's experiences and struggles have made him strong not weak!

''Only with open conversation can we break the stigma behind depression, lets start talking and do it together!''
